Overview:

Position Summary

The Chief Dental Officer (CDO) reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer of DentalOne and is responsible for managing all aspects related to the oversight of professional dental services. This includes managing two Regional Clinical Vice Presidents, establishing patient care parameters, working in close collaboration with professional care givers (dentists and hygienists) as well as practice administrative and management teams. The CDO is also responsible for the overall clinical strategic direction, oversight, and improvement in the disease management services and programs, clinical quality, patient satisfaction initiatives, and outcomes tracking. These are to include, but not limited to, development, implementation, market research and strategic partnerships. Role priorities include, but are not limited to, Strategic Planning, Process and Quality Improvement and Provider Relations.  The Chief Dental Officer may have additional direct reports from departments requiring clinical oversight.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day clinical and administrative leadership and management to this DSO that mirrors the adopted mission, culture, and core values of DentalOne.
  • Work towards establishing a system wide culture of continuous improvement in a patient centered environment.
  • Provide balanced leadership reflective of patient satisfaction, clinical care, and organizational sustainability.
  • Responsible for the measurement and effectiveness of all processes related to clinical care and patient satisfaction.
  • Provide timely, accurate and complete reports on the operating condition of the company related to clinical care.
  • Spearhead the development, communication and implementation of effective quality improvement and processes.
  • Motivate and lead a high performance clinical management team. This includes competencies to attract, recruit and retain required professional providers.
  • Be instrumental in leading the overall professional development of the providers.
  • Act as lead 'Dental Care' officer through direct contact with every dentist as often as schedule permits.
  • Foster a success-oriented, accountable environment within the company.
  • Assists IT and BI in the develop and implementation of the strategic plan for dental disease management including database development, outcomes analysis and case management.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with academic institutions for the purposes of mutually beneficial collaboration and future placement of their dental students/residents.
  • Participate in executive strategic planning at the corporate level.
  • Provide input into the development of marketing and educational materials for patient focused care.
  • Work with the operations team to establish operation standards for cost control, waste reduction, safety, quality assurance and productivity.
  • Support corporate counsel in risk management and contract evaluation.
  • Evaluate and advise on the impact of long range planning, introduction of new programs/strategies and regulatory interaction.
  • Enhance and/or develop, assist with implementation and enforcement of policies and procedures in the organization to improve the overall operation and effectiveness of DentalOne.
  • Ownership of a subset of DentalOne Professional Associations.
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with corporate sponsorship and clinical vendors.
  • Establishment and implementation of quality assurance protocols for dental labs.
  • Oversee CE course(s) evaluation and suitability to improve clinical care both presented by DentalOne or other third party.
  • In conjunction with the Regional Hygiene Directors assist with oversite of the clinical processes and outcomes of the hygiene department.
  • Assist Regional Specialty Director with evaluating needs, support and strategic plan to grow specialty care in all appropriate markets.
  • All other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Demonstrable experience and a working knowledge of business metrics.

Job Specifications

  • A degree in dentistry, either DDS or DMD.
  • An advanced degree in management (MBA, MPH, MHSA,) or equivalent education/certification is preferred.
  • 10+ years as a practicing dentist in either a DSO (preferable) or private practice.
  • 6-8 years of dental care management experience preferred.
  • 5 years of experience working in a team environment.
  • 3 years of experience in supervisory position managing direct reports.
  • 3 years of experience managing budgets.

This is a full-time position preferably located in the DentalOne corporate office in Plano, Texas.  Consideration of part-time commuting will be provided to candidates exhibiting all required job specifications.

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and competitive for the position and size of company.  Benefits will be the same as all executive management positions.
